Holding the AAP Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), South Delhi BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri demanded resignations of Delhi Minister Atishi and Mayor Shelly Oberai for the death of three IAS aspirants — two females and a male — who lost their lives as they were trapped inside the library running in the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar area, which flooded due to rain and reportedly led to the failure of the single biometric entry and exit point. The Delhi unit of the BJP has demanded that a police case be filed against the Delhi government, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Jal Board, and the power distribution company (Discom) and the owner for investigation and action for the tragedy. Addressing a press conference, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and MP Ms. Bansuri Swaraj demanded that for an impartial investigation, it is necessary that the concerned minister Ms. Atishi resigns and the local officials of these departments be suspended.
Bidhuri said after this incident, Atishi and Mayor Shelly Oberoi have no right to remain in their positions and should resign immediately. Bidhuri also demanded the immediate dismissal of the failed Delhi government and the municipal corporation.
He said that if the drains and sewers had been cleaned on time before the monsoon, this tragedy could have been avoided. AAP leaders, including the area's MLA Durgesh Pathak, are blaming heavy rainfall for the incident, but the truth is that drains are cleaned to prevent flooding from monsoon rains.
Sachdeva also demanded that the Delhi government pay Rs 1 crore ex gratia to the families of the deceased. “All the students’ post-mortems should be done by Sunday afternoon, and their bodies should be assisted in being transported to their home regions.
The government should also provide compensation of 1 crore rupees to the family affected by the South Patel Nagar incident,” said Sachdeva. Sachdeva added, after the Mukherjee Nagar incidents, it was the responsibility of the Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Municipal Corporation to ensure that coaching or libraries operate only in basement buildings with two exits and paths at least 5 feet wide. Clearly, no surveys were conducted, nor any actions taken in the coaching centres spread across Karol Bagh, Rajendra Nagar, and Patel Nagar in central Delhi.
“If the Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Municipal Corporation had enforced the guidelines issued after the Mukherjee Nagar incident, this basement library would have been closed,” he said The BJP leader also accused the DJB of not desilting the sewer drains and said the New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj and former councillor Rajesh Bhatia also raised the matter with MLA Durgesh Pathak.
Swaraj said that till 2015 Rajinder Nagar was considered to be a model assembly constituency of Delhi in terms of good roads, greenery, fine drainage and safe enviorn but after 10 years of Arvind Kejriwal and periods of MLAs Vijendra Garg, Raghav Chadha and Durgesh Pathak the model assembly has been turned into a modern day slum with lack of drinking water haunting it in summers and waterlogging in the monsoon month.
