BJP candidates, Samik Bhattacharya and Ritesh Tiwari on Tuesday filed their nominations for the Chowrunghee and Basirhaat Dakshin Assembly by-elections.
Bhattacharya is a State leader who had contested the recently concluded parliamentary elections from Basirhat while Tiwari is the State’s party spokesperson. In both the places, the BJP had taken a lead in Basirhat Dakshin segment while it came a close second in Chowrunghee in the heart of Kolkata. The CPI(M)’s Fayaz Khan also filed his nomination. The Congress is fielding a local councilor Santosh Pathak. Kolkata North MP Sudip Bandopadhyay’s wife Naina is contesting on Trinamool ticket.
