BJP accuses Ibobi of playing politics over NH blockade

BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Monday slammed Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and said it was unfortunate that the State Government was not acting to lift the nearly two-month-old blockade of National Highways in the State.

The senior BJP leader said this while interacting with the journalists on the sidelines of a party workers meeting in Guwahati. “The Central Government has extended all help to the State Government so that the blockades on NHs can belifted. However, the Chief Minister is not acting for some narrow political gains,” he said.

“The Manipur Chief Minister is playing politics with a narrow objective of getting votes in the neat year polls,” Ram Madhav said, adding that Centre had sent additional forces to the troubled State since day one of the problem.

“The people of the State are suffering. law and order is a State subject and Centre cannot do anything on its own as far as the law and order is concerned. Union Minister of state for Home Kiren Rijiju had also visited the State and urged the State Government to lift the blockade. The Chief Minister is still not acting adding to the suffering of the people,” he added.

Asked about whether the Central Government is contemplating to impose Presidents’ Rule in the State, the senior BJP leader said the focus of the Centre, at this moment, was to lift the blockade.
