BJP: Didi, Rahul differences will fail her unity move

The Bengal BJP has said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s efforts to unite the Opposition parties including the Congress under one banner will end up as a “big flop show” like it happened in 2019.

Referring to the Bengal ruling outfit’s "attitude" towards Rahul Gandhi, State BJP spokesperson Sami Bhattacharya said that “the Trinamool will never accept his leadership … and there are many regional parties which will also not accept the leadership of the Trinamool Congress … so this grand effort will end up in a big flop show” like it happened in 2019.

“Mamata Banerjee is trying to make an all-India ‘jot’ (front) against the BJP but a carriage can never run when all its horses pull at different directions … the first difference will be between Rahall Gandhi and the TMC because neither of them would accept each other’s leadership … this is the reason why we say that this attempt of Mamata Banerjee is a non-starter.”

Meanwhile Banerjee on Wednesday said that it was upon the Left to decide whether the BJP was their biggest enemy or not. Her statement came days after CPI(M) politburo member Biman Bose said that the Left was ready to back even the Trinamool Congress to drive the BJP out at the national level.

“I cannot say anything about the Left because they are a different group … but it depends upon them to decide as to who is their bigger enemy … they will have to decide whether they are with the BJP or against it,” the Chief Minister said prompting the CPI(M) leadership to react rather strongly saying it is the Trinamool Congress supremo who has brought the saffron outfit to Bengal.

Former CPI(M) MP and party central committee member Sujan Chakrabarty said, “We will not take any lesson about what the Left should do because it is Mamata Banerjee who has brought BJP to Bengal … her policies in Bengal has only given the BJP a fillip… despite the mock fights the world knows about their clandestine friendship … She cannot erase the history of her 10-year alliance with the BJP.”

He said that “it is the Left Front that will finally drive out the BJP from the State,” adding “the entire India knows about the Left Front’s struggle against communal forces … we have fought against the BJP and will continue to do so”.
