A day after he was remanded in the custody of Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case, Maharashtra’s former deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Wednesday night examined by a team of doctors from the State-run JJ Hospital after he complained of uneasiness in his chest.

A two-member team of cardiologists from JJ Hospital visited the ED officel at Ballard Pier in south Mumbai at around 8 pm and carried out a medical check up of Bhujbal, who had earlier in the evening told the agency officials that he was feeling uneasy.

Denying speculation in the media that Bhujbal had been admitted to his hospital, the dean of JJ Hospital Dr TP lahane  told “The Pioneer”: “ He (Bhujbal) has been admitted our hospital. Our team of doctors examined Bhujbal at the ED office for ECG changes in his heart. We have asked him to come to the hospital for a thorough medical check-up tomorrow”.

Bhujbal, whose two-day ED custody will end on Thursday, is expected to be taken to the JJ Hospital tomorrow morning, before he is produced before the special Prevention of Money laundering Act (PMlA) court for seeking an extension of his custody.

Sixty-eight-year-old Bhujbal was arrested on Monday night  by the ED after it questioned him for more than 10 hours, in connection with two money laundering cases registered against him, his family members and associates.

Bhujbal is the second member of his family to have been arrested in connection with the money laundering cases registered against him, his son Pankaj, nephew Sameer and others in connection with the two Economic Case Information Reports (ECIRs) registered on June 17 against him, his son Pankaj and nephew Sameer others under the provisions of PMlA. Earlier, his nephew had been arrested on February 1 and is still in judicial custody.
