Bengal to apprise Centre on Malda

PNS

Even as the riot-hit villages of Sujapur and Kaliachak in Malda district limped back to normalcy with most residents still reeling under trauma of Sunday’s violence, the State Home Department sources said that they would soon prepare a report to be sent to the Centre.

New Delhi had earlier demanded a report from the State Government on the flare-up that assumed communal dimensions. The mob protesting against a speech made by a Kamlesh Tewari an ABHMS leader in UP turned violent blockading NH-34 and burning down vehicles and attacking the members of another community.

“It appeared to be a law and order issue” said a Home Department official adding, detailed reports were however being gathered.

Meanwhile, the State BJP leadership has petitioned Governor KN Tripathi for action. The Governor said that he would inform the Centre about the developments in Malda.
