The Bengal Government has taken serious note of fake social media posts announcing an administrative decision declaring a four-day leave on the occasion of Eid. The police have been “directed to spare none how so influential one is,” sources at Nabanna the State administrative headquarters said.

This “diabolic design” to create a communally charged atmosphere in the State ahead of 2019 general elections will be countered and handled professionally,   a senior Trinamool Congress leader and Minister from southern parts of Kolkata adding, “the police have been given the requisite go-ahead,” to explode the “nefarious conspiracy” and expose the conspirators.

According to reports the State police have warned the masterminds of the fake post would be caught and dealt with strictly as per law.

Apparently the Bengal cops’ warning was also directed at an IAS officer from a different State who had twitted about the alleged grant of longest ever Eid holidays of full four days for “faithful and infidel alike” in what he termed “Islamic State of West Bangladesh.”

The said officer however deleted the post soon after, police sources said.

The confusion started after a fake post under the letter head of State Finance Department declared a four-day holiday on Eid. It said thatthe Governor had declared a holiday from June 12 to 15 in order to celebrate Eid during which all government establishments including educational institutions would remain closed.

The fake post reportedly was carried in the name of an additional secretary of Bengal Government. Soon however, the Finance Department denied the earlier post as fake saying “no such post has been made,” and the State police swung into action after declaring it a fake post. “Strict action will be taken after investigations are over,” a senior official said.

Taking serious note of the development the Minister quoting Mamata Banerjee said “the Chief Minister is furious and has asked the police to get to the bottom of the whole issue so that the miscreants can be caught and exposed before the people because we have reports

that there are concerted efforts to create a communally charged atmosphere in Bengal before the 2019 general elections.”

The State had in 2017 experienced communal tensions at Basirhat he reminded saying how “outsiders and right wing political activists had poured oil in fire by posting fake pictures of Gujarat riots and even one from a Bhojpuri film to fan riots in newer areas.” Such “diabolic designs would be defeated at any cost he said.
