Bengal CPM to question 'rebel' MlA on joining Congress rally

PNS

The State CPI(M) is planning to question the so-called “rebel” party MlA Tanmoy Bhattacharya as to why he joined a Congress rally on Saturday, despite a ban issued by the party central committee against any kind of alliance with the tri-colour outfit, sources said, adding that he could however be let off with a mild rebuke.

The Congress had invited State CPI(M) secretary Suryakanto Mishra to join the rally called to protest price rise. While Mishra had deputed left legislature Party leader Sujan Chakrabarty to join the programme, the decision was changed at the last moment following a central committee ban on joining cause with the Congress.

Subsequently Bhattacharya on Saturday joined the rally without any party flag and later told the media that he had done no wrong as he “could not cheat the people of my constituency to whom I approached two months ago seeking their votes in the name of an alliance.”

“The party will try to know what happened” Sujan Chakrabarty said, while CPI(M) North 24 Parganas secretary Gautam Deb, himself a central committee member, said “the CC has never banned joint movement on the issues that concerned common people.”
