Bengal braces up for bandh

PNS

The Bengal Government braced up for the two-day Bharat bandh called by the Left trade unions and supported by the Congress’ Indian Trade Union Congress after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she would no more allow the bandh culture to flourish in Bengal taking the State further back.

Even as the Left parties campaigned intensely throughout the State even threatening to “actively resist any attempt to use force by the administration and the Trinamool,” State administration made elaborate police bandobast to keep the State open and working on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The Government has even directed the police to ensure security to the central Government offices lest they fall prey to violence,” State Minister Partho Chatterjee said while Transport Minister Subhendu Adhikary said “additional buses, trams and ferry services will be plied on Monday and Tuesday to keep life normal.”
