Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday accused the Trinamool Congress administration of allowing Bangladeshi criminals to settle in this part of the border.
Attacking the Mamata Banerjee Government for doing nothing about trans-border migration he said “you have wanted criminals from Bangladesh including the assassin of late President Mujibur Rehman living peacefully at Park Circus area of Kolkata for the past 15 years … the Rajakars and Jamaat criminals have made Bengal their hideouts … these criminals are entering India through the sea route and everyone including the police know this … but this Government is turning blind eye to that… this Government is bringing entire Bangladesh to Bengal.”
He made these observations after illegal drugs of Bangladeshi make were found in two Government hospitals of East Midnapore district.
The Opposition parties took up the issue after Government hospitals at Contai and Nandigram distributed Cefradine an antibiotic made and meant for use only in Bangladesh.
Though the distribution of the drugs was immediately stopped and the Health Department ordered an inquiry into the matter, senior officials said that the medicines had been supplied by the central government to the State.
“We had picked up the consignments from the central drug store which was sent to the State in June 2021 for distribution … hence it is for those who responsible for sending the drugs to Bengal who have to answer,” the senior officials said.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated development the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday lodged with the Election Commission of India a complaint against Adhikari for entering a local police station in Ballygunge Assembly constituency — which will go to by-elections on April 12 — and threatening the officials.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said “Suvendu Adhikari entered the Rabindra Sarobar Police Station on March 31 with a number of supporters and threatened the officers with dire consequence … just because they were discharging there election duty … he told them that he would get the EC to transfer them to some remote areas.”
The BJP leader later said that he would provide an explanation to the ECI if he was asked to do so.
