Uttar Pradesh Minority Welfare Minister Azam Khan said that the State Government’s intention to free innocent people of terror charges was not malafide as it believed in natural justice and does not want any innocent person to be punished.
In a statement issued here on Friday, he said that no one should question the intention of the State Government in releasing innocent people of terror charges. “We will try to convince the High Court about our intention,” Khan said in his statement.
Reacting to the High Court verdict in which the division bench has stayed Government proceedings to release people arrested in terror charges, Khan said that probably “our lawyers were not able to present our cases in true spirit”. They were not able to convince the honourable court about our intention, he said.
“The youth who are arrested in false cases or because of political vendetta would be released soon. This is Government’s resolve and promise to the people,” Khan, who is also Muslim face of the SP, said.
He, however, called court’s decision to release Varun Gandhi of all charges of hate speech as unfortunate.
