Attack on George Baker: BJP demands Mamata's scalp

PNS

A day after saffron leader and MP George Baker was roughed up and his car was smashed, the BJP on Sunday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee owing moral responsibility to the incident.

Bengal was a place where democracy did not prevail, BJP leader and grand nephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose said adding the Trinamool Congress had unleashed a regime where only one party would have its say.

Bengal under Mamata Banerjee had been converted into a “land of hoodlums” where the Opposition workers were attacked and their voices stifled every day.

“Even the senior leaders like MPs of other parties cannot escape their attacks,” he said demanding resignation of Banerjee as the State’s Home Minister.

Wondering whether the Chief Minister should continue to handle the Home portfolio he said “She should immediately put in her resignation. The peace-loving people of Bengal will not tolerate such behavior of the Trinamool goons any longer.”

Baker’s car was attacked, he was pulled out of it and beaten up with wickets by TMC goons when he went to conduct a “Bistarak” programme of the BJP at Kalna in Burdwan district. The windshield — with sticker indicating “MP” mark -— of the car was smashed.

Complaints against five TMC men, including a councilor, was lodged at the local police station while the ruling outfit claimed the Saturday’s incident was a product of intra-party clash of the BJP.
