Indicating the change on which the BJP rode to success in Assam, the first Cabinet meeting of the new BJP Government in Assam on Wednesday decided not only to reduce the cavalcade of Chief Minister Sonowal to bare minimum but also do away with traffic restrictions for the public while the cavalcade is on the move.

The decision was taken at the first Cabinet meeting of the Council of Ministers that took place at the Brahmaputra State Guest House in Guwahati. The Cabinet also decided to abolish the inter-State check gates, which have become hubs of syndicate and corruption during the last 15 years of the Congress’ rule in Assam resulting in increase in prices of essential commodities across the State.

“The meeting of Council of Ministers decided to reduce the number of vehicles in the Chief Minister’s convoy to the bare minimum.

“It also decided to do away with certain restrictions put in place during the movement of Sonowal’s cavalcade so that it does not cause any traffic snarls and effect emergency,” said a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office here.

Sonowal, who took the oath of office and secrecy at a function in Guwahati along with ten Ministers, also decided to do away with interviews for the 3rd and 4th grade Government jobs in consonance with the Central Government’s policy.

Sonowal, who have accorded top-most priority to the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), visited the Office of the State Coordinator, NRC and took stock of the progress of updating the NCR.

He said that the State Government would extend all possible assistance to the exercise of updating the NRC and said that his Government was committed to give a comprehensive and flawless NRC.

Sonowal called upon his ministerial colleagues to work wholeheartedly and with all sincerity for the welfare of the people, who have reposed full faith and confidence upon the new government and gave a massive mandate to usher in change.

Sonowal also urged his colleagues to utilize their time to the optimum level for the all-round development of the state and emphasized on the need to achieve the goals of ‘maximum governance’ to ensure files are pushed faster and decisions taken with speed.
