The Opposition Congress in Assam has lodged an FIR against lok Sabha member from Assam’s Jorhat parliamentary constituency, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa for comparing Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi with garbage.

The Congress on Sunday protested against the derogatory statement made by Tasa by holding protest demonstration in different parts of the state and demanded unconditional apology from Tasa and urged the police to arrest him immediately.

It may be mentioned here that Tasa while addressing a public rally at Sonari compared ‘Nehru and Gandhi’ with garbage. “The Congress has washed the brains of people by pushing garbage like Nehru-Gandhi, Nehru-Gandhi and now people are not ready to accept any second theory,” said Tasa while talking about the ideologies of Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was also present on the dais on which Tasa was addressing the people.

“That the Member of Parliament of Jorhat lok Sabha constituency, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa in a meeting held in Sonaridecribed Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi as garbage.

Therefore we seek immediate arrest of Tasa and prosecution under CrPC,” said the FIR filed by some Congress leaders at Bhangagarh police station in Guwahati.

“This is an unpardonable offence. How can a lok Sabha MP term freedom fighters like Jawaharlal Nehru and mahatma Gandhi as garbage. This is not only an insult to the people of Assam but entire country, who respect Gandhiji as Father of the Nation,” said APCC president Ripun Bora.

“This is also an insult to our nation, to the freedom movement, to our Constitution. It is a serious offence. No sensible person can make such an offensive remark,” Bora said.

“BJP MP Kamakhya Tasa's speech equating Pandit Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi with garbage is condemnable and he should issue a public apology,” tweeted Congress lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday.
