The auto-taxi unions’ strike in the Capital on Monday — over Delhi Government's mandating GPS meters in all auto-rickshaws — didn't work out the way it was planned. The unions were instead seen rallying at Kashmere Gate's ISBT area and reportedly went to meet lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung with a list of their demands.
The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh presented three demands before the l-G. "First of all, we demand that 15-year-old vehicles should be replaced by the transports department. Second, tatkal fitness producers should come in existence as due to this problems 55,000 autos have been denied their fitness certificate. Third, we have requested the government to bear the cost of the installation of GPS systems," said Rajender Soni, president of the Sangh. Meanwhile, other leaders from the union have claimed that the l-G has assured them that in 15 days their demands will be fulfilled.
