The Supreme Court will take up a petition by Reliance Telecom ltd (RTl) challenging a trial court order summoning RTl Chairman Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani as prosecution witnesses in the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

With the trial court fixing their date of appearance on July 27, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi mentioned the petition before a Bench headed by Justice P Sathasivam for urgent listing. The court directed the matter to be listed before the appropriate bench hearing the 2G cases on Tuesday.

RTl, which is facing trial in the case has questioned the necessity of summoning the Ambanis, who have yet not filed any separate petitions on their part to challenge the trial judge’s order. On July 19, the trial court had allowed CBI’s plea to summon Anil Ambani and his wife to elicit more information on the alleged investment of over Rs 990 crore by ADAG group companies in Swan Telecom, one of the accused beneficiary of spectrum during the tenure of A Raja as Telecom Minister.
