Anti-Israel protesters hit streets in Valley

Tens of thousands people took to streets in Kashmir on Monday to protest against the Israeli aggression on Palestinians in Gaza. The protesters demanded immediate end to lethal strikes on the besieged Gaza strip.

Hundreds of students from over half a dozen educational institutions gathered at the Residency Road where most newspapers have offices, to exhibit solidarity with the Palestinians.

“All Muslim countries must be united and take a strong and united stand against Israel immediately,” Shahad Ali, a student said.

Hundreds of pedestrians and traders also joined the students’ protest, leading to chaos on the Srinagar roads for hours.

The police didn’t allow the protesters to march towards Maisuma and Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. However, the police dispersed the protesters near Women College Maulana Azad Road Srinagar when they insisted to march towards UNMOGIP office at Sonwar. Few students, however, managed to reach the UN office to register their protest.

Sources said hundreds of students in Sopore also held the protest and resorted to stone pelting after police disallowed them to hold demonstrations.

Kashmir High Court Bar Association also held protests inside the premises of Saddar Court Srinagar. Some lawyers held a sit-in on a busy thoroughfare.
