A Rashtriya Rifles battalion soldier committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle. Sepoy Roshan Singh, 35, was deployed in Krishnaghati area along the loC in Poonch sector. This is second such incident in two weeks in the same area. Earlier, a BSF personnel committed suicide nine days ago.

Police have registered case and initiated inquest proceedings. According to sources,

the Army has separately ordered a court of enquiry into the case.

The incidents of suicide and fratricidal killings have taken place on regular intervals in Jammu & Kashmir due to heightened stress levels among the troops deployed mostly in sensitive and volatile areas. Most of the times, the incidents occur due to denial of leave by the seniors, marital disputes and longer stay of the troops away from their families.

Meanwhile, thousands of people on Monday took part in the funeral prayers of slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Aaqib Bhat at Tral in Pulwama. The security forces shot

dead two terrorists in a 15-hour-long gun-battle at Hafoo Nazneenpora. A policeman was also killed in the gunbattle while five soldiers, including a Major were injured.
