Former Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Narayana Swamy was attacked near the Zilla Parishad Chairman's office in Chittoor on October 21, as tensions escalated during the state's local body election nomination process. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) blamed cadres of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for the incident.

Swamy had arrived to assist with the filing of a Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) nomination from Penumuru when the alleged attack took place.

Separately, YSRCP candidates attempting to file nominations for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats at the Mandal office in Macherla, Palnadu district, were allegedly assaulted by TDP cadres. Their nomination papers were reportedly confiscated, preventing them from completing the process.

The incidents have intensified YSRCP's allegations that violence and intimidation have prevented its candidates from contesting local body elections, prompting intervention from the Supreme Court.
