BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday asked party workers in Kerala to work for making the State free of Congress and communists and hoped that his party would “open account” in the 2016 State Assembly election.
“At the national level, the BJP workers are working towards making India Congress-free. But in Kerala, we have to free it from both the Congress and the communists,” he said while addressing party workers at its Navothana Sangamam held in Kollam.
“After the Bihar elections, there will be elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Kerala. let us hope that the best Government will be formed in Kerala… We have not won seats in Kerala so far. But I am sure that this time, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there will be a change,” the BJP chief said.
Claiming that BJP’s growth in the State was making the Marxists restless, Shah said that was why they had started celebrating Hindu festivals. “Communists, who have so far been spreading the message of atheism, are now being forced to celebrate Janmashtami and Navaratri because of the BJP,” Shah said referring to the processions the CPI(M) had held on the last Sri Krishna Jayanti.
Earlier in the day, the BJP president participated in the 62nd birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi at Amritapuri, the Amritanandamayi Math’s headquarters in Kollam district.
Meanwhile, Shah’s meeting with Vellappally Natesan, general secretary of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP), the powerful outfit of backward Hindu caste Ezhavas, on the sidelines of the Amritapuri programme, raised speculations about the possibility of BJP-SNDP cooperation in the civic poll to be held in the State in less than two months.
