The Goa Police on Friday thwarted a plan laid to rescue an alleged Israeli drug dealer from police custody. The conspirator, a Jewish American, guarded the Chabad House in Mumbai till last year. The house was destroyed in the 26/11 attacks. Inspector General of Police, Sunil Garg told The Pioneer on Friday that the plan laid out by Naftari Samuel (25) to facilitate the escape of Neria Bendavid (20), an Israeli who was booked in January this year for possession of lSD liquid worth Rs20.60 lakh, had the finesse of a “film script”.

“It was a Bollywood style plan, which was worth of a film script. The planning was meticulous and was done in advance,” Garg said. According to the plan, Samuel was to rescue Benavid after pepper spraying the escorting cops and fleeing with getaway vehicles — a pre-hired taxi and a two wheeler, parked at the venue two days prior. Bendavid was being ferried under armed escort to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour near Panaji, when Samuel attacked the police. This resultes in a punch-up and eventually Samuel was arrested.
