Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has suddenly discovered virtues in reservation politics and demanded that the cap on quota from present 50 per cent be increased to 69 per cent. Referring to Tamil Nadi, Yadav pointed out reservation limit in the State was 69 percent and it should be increased in Uttar Pradesh too.
“If Tamil Nadu Government can raise the limit of reservation for SCs,STs and OBCs to 69 per cent, then why can the same not be done elsewhere. The cap of the reservation should be enhanced to 69 per cent,’’ said Yadav in lucknow on Tuesday.
The former CM said that the BJP Government must examine as to how to increase the quota for SCs, STs and OBCs.
“The BJP has been claiming to be the messiah of dalits and most backward castes. It should hence do something concrete for their uplift. The Samajwadi Party will take up this matter and launch a decisive struggle for ensuring the due share of the SC and OBCs in Government jobs and other sectors of polity,’’ said Akhilesh.
The SP chief demanded from the Government for recruitment of SCs and OBCs in Government jobs.
The Supreme Court while deciding constitutional validity of 27 per cent reservation for OBCs as per Mandal Commission report had fixed a cap of 50 per cent on total reservation under all categories.
