All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora was detained by Delhi Police on Friday while marching from Mandi House towards Connaught Place to join the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest.

Bora was among several activists detained amid heightened security in central Delhi ahead of the planned march at Central Park in Connaught Place. Reports said she was detained as she moved towards the protest venue with other supporters, while police personnel were deployed across the area and the park was shut ahead of the gathering.

The march was called by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The protest also came in the wake of the detention and judicial custody of CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were sent to five days of judicial custody after entering Jantar Mantar with the national flag on October 13.

Dipke was also detained on Friday while leaving a residence in Delhi to join the march. Earlier in the day, police had served him a notice asking him not to proceed with the proposed gathering, citing concerns about public order and the rights of commuters, traders and others.

The proposed march came amid a series of protests by CJP, student groups and opposition activists seeking Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision.
