The Assam Police has sounded an alert across the State after receiving information that two cadres of the militant outfits are trying to trigger explosions particularly in Assam’s capital town Guwahati, where the Prime Minister is scheduled to address three meetings this weekend.
“Information received that two tribal youth, likely to belong to the Ulfa are planning to keep explosives in city buses in Guwahati. Operations have already been launched to nab the duo,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Anand Prakash Tiwari on Wednesday through a social networking site.

The Assam Police have already intensified the security arrangements across the State ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Special measures have been taken this time due to the ‘protest day’ of the Ulfa on Thursday—the Government had on November 27, 1990 imposed a ban on the Ulfa.
“All VVIP visits are basically high security matter. However, we are more cautious this time as the PM’s visit is two days after the Ulfa’s protest day. Besides, the outfit had already stepped up its activities,” said a senior official of the Assam Police. It may be mentioned here that while the Ulfa militants had on Sunday triggered a blast in Dibrugarh district killing two and injuring several others, the police have recovered a powerful bomb from a train entering Guwahati city on Monday.
