With fighting intensifying in Afghanistan, its army chief Lt General Wali Mohammad Ahmadzai has postponed his three-day visit to India starting Tuesday. He was scheduled to hold talks with Army Chief General M M Naravane on the situation in his country and fostering closer ties with Indian forces. He was also scheduled to meet National Security Advisor(NSA)Ajit Doval.
Announcing the postponement, the Afghanistan embassy said on Monday the visit was deferred due to intensity of war and the
Taliban’s increased assault and offensive. Ahmadzai was appointed as the Army Chief by President Ashraf Ghani in a major reshuffle last month.
The timing of the visit had coincided with the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken who is scheduled to arrive in India on Tuesday on a two-day visit. Afghanistan is expected to figure prominently in his talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
