Bakarana, a village adopted by former Deputy Prime Minister lK Advani under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGM), is set to achieve a feat of having at least a toilet in every home. With population of nearly 3,000 people, the village is situated 80 km from Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar and around 50 km from Ahmedabad. Advani has given a target of constructing at least one toilet block in every house of Bakarana to his team in Gujarat. Already construction of toilets is going on.
The 88-year-old BJP patriarch as well as Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar is visiting the village on Monday. He will randomly visit two-three houses and interact with the locals. The village is situated on the outskirts of Sanand, better known for world's cheapest car Nano's manufacturing unit.
"We had done detailed survey on various requirements of the village after Adavaniji decided to adopt the village. Based on it, different facilities are being developed here," said a source close to the BJP leader.
Cleanliness is being given the priority here and as part of it toilets are being constructed. Besides, a planned drainage system is also under construction. Cleanliness equipments have been given to the village and a system of door-to-door collection of garbage is being developed to keep the village clean.
Already an Aanganvadi building and Gram Panchayat office with computer and V-SAT facilties have been constructed in the village. "We have donated toys and learning equipments for children to the village school. A public garden is planned part of development project too," he added.
Advani's team in Gujarat has also envisaged tap water connections for all homes in the village coupled with installation of an RO plant at the school building. The villagers are also being trained for water harvesting. Work for deepening the village lake has also been initiated.
"Computers at the school as well as a shed for mid-day meal are also on the agenda. The village has one bore well but due to our efforts Water Supply department has sanctioned one more bore well," he added.
Efforts are also on to cover all the residents of the village under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Well ahead of monsoon, a detailed plan has been chalked out for massive tree plantation surrounding the village. Even grassland will also be developed for cows. Various skill developments training program will also be conducted in the village in order to empower locals, especially women. A new Bus Stand has also been planned here.
