Congress leader in Parliament Adhir Chowdhury has quoted Union Home Minister as saying that Bengal Government is not taking enough interest in getting back its migrating workers stuck in various parts of the country.

The Congress MP from Behrampore has said that he had taken up the issue of Bengali migrant workers requesting him to arrange for their return home.

“I have talked to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. It is his responsibility to give relief to the people stuck in different states owing to the lockdown and hold consultations with the respective State Governments in this regard,” he said adding the Home Minister had assured him of holding talks with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

While the States like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were facilitating the return of their respective citizens working in other States the Bengal Government was not pursuing the matter, Chowdhury quoting Shah said.

Bengal too has more than a lakh workers stuck in various parts of the country.

“The State Government can arrange for quarantine facilities after bringing the migrant labourers and other people back. It can also ask for corona-negative certificates from the states where they are stranded before allowing them to return,” the former Railway Minister said.

Bengal had already brought about 4,500 people including pilgrims and students stranded at Ajmer and Kota in Rajasthan --- some by bus and others by train.

Meanwhile, the dreaded corona virus crept into the Indian Museum taking its toll on a Central Industrial Security Force.

A CISF Sub-inspector posted at the Indian Museum on Friday died due to the corona virus. The victim identified as Asit Kumar Saha was undergoing treatment in Calcutta Medical College and Hospital.

The other 50 CISF personnel in the same unit who came in contact with him have been quarantined, the officials said adding the Museum staff had also been isolated.
