Adhir bats for alliance with LF

PNS

Soon after assuming the presidentship of Bengal Pradesh Congress Behrampore MP and Congress Leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Chowdhury on Thursday raised the pitch for an electoral alliance with the Left Front.

“The Congress had always been firm in its belief about an electoral alliance with the Left. It is the CPI(M) which required to take a decision on this… For the past several months the two sides are jointly organising political programmes … now time has come when we need to strike a political and electoral alliance to take on the misrule of Trinamool Congress,” Chowdhury said adding the Left-Congress alliance can jointly put up a massive fight in Bengal.

There was no immediate reaction from the Marxist leadership though a senior leader said “the Left Front will take a decision on the issue at an appropriate moment.”

A strong anti-Mamata Banerjee face in the case Chowdhury was reinstated on the PCC president’s post on Wednesday about two months after the death of PCC president Somen Mitra. Chowdhury acted as PCC president till 2018 after which Mitra was made the State party president.
