Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Sunday adopted lilapur Village of Daskroi tehsil in the Ahmedabad district as an ideal village under the MlAs ‘Adarsh Gram Yojna’.
Keeping in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on Independence Day asking every MP to adopt one village in their respective constituency, Patel herself set an example in the State asking each MlA to adopt one village, taking the people along to convert that into an ideal village. It is part of the State Government’s call for ‘Gatisheel Gujarat’.
She accorded top priority to cleanliness in every street, drain and locality in the entire village, and to construction of toilets in every home and school, for which plans will be made at the local level itself as per the need.
Patel directed the administration to hold meeting with village elders to provide the physical amenities as part of the development projects in a time bound manner. She reiterated her Government’s commitment to provide a toilet in every home in two years. She asked each villager to voluntarily pick a task. Cleanliness keeps diseases at bay, she emphasised.
The former village sarpanch of lilapur gave a detailed outline of the campaign for cleanliness vis-à-vis the current situation. A presentation of the Prime Minister's guidelines for ideal village was also made on the occasion in consonance with Antyodaya Vikas, meaning development of the last man in the last mile. Its objective is not just providing electricity but also spreading enlightenment through education, raising the standards of living and inculcating cleanliness as a matter of habit.
The villagers took pledge to keep the village neat and clean. Ahmedabad District panchayat president Suresh Patel and progressive farmer Govind Patel also spoke on the occasion.
