Actor Dileep accuses DGP, ADGP of trapping him

Malayalam movie superstar Dileep, charged with plotting the February 17 attack on a frontline young actress, has sought a CBI probe into the incident saying that Kerala Director General of Police loknath Behera and Additional DGP B Sandhya who is heading the team probing the conspiracy behind the attack had played a pivotal role in trapping him in the case as chief conspirator.

In a 12-page letter written to the Home Secretary, Dileep, who was arrested on July and had spent 85 days in detention in a prison, reportedly alleged that fake evidences were

manufactured to trap him and the DGP and ADGP had played a crucial role in this. He said Behera’s conduct in the matter was not appropriate as far as the position he occupied was concerned.

Though he had approached the DGP as back as on April 10 with a complaint that main accused Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni, who had attacked the actress along his accomplices, was trying to blackmail him, the police had not examined this so far, he complained in the letter adding that he had also handed over to Behera scientific evidences for Suni’s efforts to blackmail him.

The frontline actress was assaulted and video-graphed in the awkward condition by a gang led by Suni, the hoodlum allegedly hired by Dileep, in a car on the night of February 17 when she was on her way to Kochi from Thrissur. Suni and some of his associates were arrested within a week of the incident and the first chargesheet in the case was filed subsequently.

According to the Prosecution, Dileep had given a Rs 1.5-crore “quotation” to Suni for abducting, sexually assaulting and videographing her in the awkward situation. However, the superstar has consistently denied having any connection with Suni at any point of time. The prosecution has slapped Dileep with serious charges including gang rape, criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.

The superstar, arrested on July 10 on the charge of giving a ‘quotation’ to Pulsar Suni to abduct, sexually assault the actress and videograph her in the awkward situation,

had been lodged at the sub-jail in Aluva, his hometown

near Kochi, till October 3, the day the Kerala High Court granted him bail.

Presently Dileep is 11th accused but he could be named as first accused in the additional chargesheet the police may file soon. In the letter he wrote to the Home Secretary 14 days after he was released on bail, Dileep said that the stand taken by DGP Behera and ADGP Sandhya on the case was ‘suspicious’.

The superstar said that he had informed Behera about Suni’s blackmail bid when he first called his friend and actor-director Nadir Shah on April 10. A formal complaint was submitted a few days later and he also handed over to the DGP the voice records of the phone calls Suni had made on April 18, 20 and 21 to blackmail him, Dileep said.

Dileep wanted the entire actress attack affair to be probed by a different team of the police if there were difficulties in handing over the investigation to the CBI. If such a police team was being constituted, neither Behera nor any of the officials in the present team including ADGP Sandhya should have any say in its functioning.

Apart from Sandhya, the police team presently probing the conspiracy has as its members Superintendent of Police (Rural – Aluva) AV George, Crime Branch SP KS Sudarsanan, Deputy SP Sojan Varghese and Circle Inspector Byju K Poulose, the probe officer. All these officials should be kept away from the probe if any team was formed, Dileep said in the letter.
