With the court extending the police custody remand of rape accused BJP MlA Kuldeep Singh Sengar by a week, the State Government finally decided to withdraw ‘Y’ category security cover provided to the legislator from immediate effect on Friday.

As per reports, the custody remand of Sengar was expiring on Saturday morning and hence the CBI probe team moved an application before Additional District Judge (POCSO Court) Ashutosh in Unnao on Friday afternoon, seeking extension of the remand period.

Sources said that after listening to the CBI counsel, the Court allowed the probe agency to quiz the MlA in their custody for one more week till April 27.

However, since Sengar’s week-long custody remand sanctioned by Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sunil Kumar, lucknow last Saturday, expiring the court directed the CBI to produce the accused before the court on Saturday morning. The CBI also put the MlA’s reported accomplice Shashi Singh in jail after her two-day custody remand expired on Thursday. Shashi is also an accused in the rape case.

Meanwhile, the BJP Government withdrew the Y-category security cover earlier provided to the rape accused BJP MlA on Friday. Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar said that Sengar’s Y-category security was revoked soon after an FIR of rape and kidnapping against him was registered on April 12.
