The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized ₹2.4 lakh in unaccounted cash from A. Srinivas, Joint Director of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), during a vehicle check on Raj Bhavan Road on Friday night.

According to the ACB, it received an anonymous call alleging that a senior HMWSSB official had collected money illegally and was carrying the cash while returning home from work. Acting on the information, a team from the ACB's City Range-II unit placed the official under surveillance.

At around 7 pm on October 24, ACB officials intercepted a Maruti Swift car opposite Metro Residency Apartments on Raj Bhavan Road. The vehicle belonged to Srinivas, who was travelling in it at the time.

During a search, officials found ₹2.4 lakh in cash that Srinivas allegedly could not satisfactorily account for. The ACB said he gave inconsistent explanations when questioned about the money.

The cash was seized under a panchanama for further verification of the alleged corruption angle. The bureau said it would inform the Income Tax Department and take further action as necessary.

The investigation is under way.
