The Central University of Hyderabad is again in the grip of tension and unrest with the students belonging to a right wing group attacking a student suspecting him to be a “Kashmiri”.

As the students community protested strongly against the students, the Cyberabad police has booked a case against Susheel Kumar, a leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students wing of the BJP along with 30 of his supporters.

Cyberabad Police said that the cases were booked under section 324 (voluntarily causing harm with dangerous weapons and means), 341 (wrongful restraint and 502 (criminal intimidation).

The same ABVP leader was in the eye of the storm over the suicide by a Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in January this year.

The latest incident occurred when a group of students belonging to Dalit and left wing groups organised a protest meeting against the use of brutal force by the police and the security forces against the people in Jammu & Kashmir.

Amol Singh, an M Phil student complained to the police that after the meeting a group of ABVP activists attacked him in the campus mistaking him for a Kashmiri student and rained blows on him.

On the other hand the police have also booked a case against Amol Singh on the complaint of Susheel Kumar that Singh had attacked him and other students.

Joint Action Committee for Social Justice, which was spearheading the cause of Rohith Vemula alleged a nexus between ABVP and the Vice Chancellor P Appa Rao in the latest incident. Condemning the incident the JAC demanded immediate arrest of those responsible for attack on Amol Singh.
