New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday alleged that demolition notices have been served to slum clusters in Shalimar Bagh and Shahdara, accusing the BJP-led Delhi government of reneging on its promises to slum dwellers.
At a press conference, Leader of Opposition Atishi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised alternative housing before any slum demolition. “Yet, within six months, slums have been demolished across the city. Now, in Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's own constituency, notices have been served to two slum areas,” she said.
According to AAP, residents of Indira Camp (Shalimar Bagh) and Lalbagh (Shahdara)—both established with allotment cards in 1990—have been directed to vacate their homes within 15 days. The Lalbagh demolition is scheduled for July 31.
“No government touched these slums for 35 years. But this BJP government is bulldozing them,” Atishi claimed.
Former Shalimar Bagh MLA Vandana Kumari added that the notice was issued on July 23 in CM Gupta's own area. “AAP has never demolished any slum without first providing permanent housing,” she said, vowing to oppose the move.
There has been no immediate response from the BJP or the Delhi government regarding the allegations.
