Close on the heels of suicide by a Dalit girl after the local police refused to protect her from sexual harassment by a boy in Basti, a eight-year-old girl was kidnapped, raped and murdered in Unnao. The local police claimed to have registered a case and was making efforts to lay a trap for the ‘suspect’, who was allegedly missing from home.
Reports said that the girl, hailing from Purabiya Tola hamlet of Bangurmau in Unnao, was called by her neighbor Bachchan, on Monday evening. Bachchan reportedly called her to go and purchase a ‘Gutka’ (pan masala) for him from the near-by betel shop. The girl went but never returned home. Her family members lodged a search for her and also tried to enquire the matter from Bachchan but the latter denied of having any knowledge. The family members subsequently went to report the matter but the local police refused and told the victim’s family to search her on their own.
Reports further said that the matter took an ugly turn on Tuesday morning when the body of the girl was found lying in Brahmnath locality of Bangarmau. The family identified the victim as their missing daughter.
The cops who rushed to the spot claimed that circumstantial evidences suggested the girl was raped and later strangulated to death. The cops suspected that someone known to the victim had sexually exploited her and later in fear of being identified if the victim revealed her ordeal to the family members, he strangulated the girl to death.
Sources said that the cops had suspicion on involvement of Bachchan with whom the girl was last spotted on Monday evening so they tried to pick him for interrogation. However, their move went in vein as before the cops reached his house, Bachchan already slipped after learning of recovery of the body.
The cops were now trying to lay a trap on him to grill his role in the above kidnapping, rape and murder case.
Meanwhile in Gorakhpur, bodies of two unknown kids were recovered inside a pond in Cantt area on Tuesday early morning. Reports said that someone informed the Cantt police that bodies of a two girls, aged about 3 and 6-years were lying inside a pond at Ramgarh area on Tuesday morning. The cops rushed and took out the bodies and sent it for post-mortem examination. They also carried a search in the pond to look for another body as they suspected that probably the mother or someone else had committed suicide together hence they jumped in the pond. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and efforts were made to maintain the identity of the victim to ascertain the reason behind the death.
