An explosive Kunal Ghosh on Thursday complained before a city court how he was being made a scapegoat in the chit fund case while eight other Trinamool MPs were allowed to roam free despite the investigators having direct evidence of their involvement in the multi-crore ponzi scam.
Circuitously attacking the CBI for soft-pedaling the case Ghosh told the court that while he was held captive in a case involving a paltry Rs4 lakh, people like Trinamool leader Rajat Majumdar who the agency had once dubbed a mastermind in the Saradha case had walked free on bail.
“There are eight MPs who are involved in the case and about whom the investigators have direct evidence. But they are not touched while I am held confined in jail for a case involving barely Rs4 lakh” he told the court.
“I know how two senior Trinamool leaders hoarded crores of rupees raised by the Saradha group, but nothing has been done to them despite the investigators being briefed about their involvement,” Ghosh subsequently said.
At least five people whose names were involved in the case have thus far been released on bail with East Bengal Club official Nitu Sarkar being the latest person on the list.Ghosh is a Rajya Sabha MP and once a blued eyed boy of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who was subsequently arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the Saradha case, after he fell out with the Chief Minister and openly challenged the integrity myth woven around her.
Meanwhile in a related incident at least three television journalists were on Thursday brutally attacked by the alleged workers of the Rose Valley Group another chit fund company whose chairman Gautam Kundu was arrested on Wednesday evening after five hours of interrogation.“We were chased and beaten up brutally by the workers of the Rose Valley Group as soon as we tried to enter the Bankshall Court where Gautam Kundu was to be produced,” said Nemai Panda of ABP Ananda who had to be taken to the hospital along with his lens man for treatment.
Another group of Rose Valley workers pushed around and threatened media men with dire consequences at the CGO Complex at Salt lake where Kundu had been held in custody of Enforcement Directorate.
