For 51 young women married only months ago, the first Karwa Chauth came with a cheque and a promise. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta handed each of them `1 lakh and a Karwa Chauth kit at the Mukhyamantri Janseva Sadan, and told them she stood by them as an elder sister.
All 51 women were married in a mass wedding organised by the Ladli Foundation in March. The financial assistance and gifts were given on the occasion of their first Karwa Chauth.
The Government described the initiative as a commendable effort to bring happiness into their lives while providing financial support. The Chief Minister congratulated the women and wished them a happy, prosperous and joyful married life. She interacted warmly with them, asked about their families and married lives, and listened to their experiences.
The Chief Minister assured the women that she would stand by them in every situation. “I stand with every daughter of Delhi as her elder sister,” she said. She urged them not to panic when faced with any difficulty or challenging circumstances. They should share their concerns openly and without hesitation, she said. They were not alone, she told them, and their problems would be heard with sensitivity.
The Chief Minister also encouraged the women to pursue their dreams with confidence, build their own identities and move forward in life. She said their happiness, dignity and self-reliance were paramount. They should always feel respected, safe and supported in every situation, she said.
Appreciating the initiative, the Chief Minister said that supporting daughters in need at the time of their marriage, and standing by them on important occasions in their lives, was a sensitive and commendable effort. Such steps provide emotional support to the women and their families, she said.
They also strengthen the spirit of cooperation, respect and belonging in society. For the 51 families, the practical benefit is the `1 lakh each woman has received, along with the kit meant to make the occasion more memorable.
