Unidentified bike-borne assailants shot at a 50-year-old jeweller in Dilshad Garden area of North east district on Thursday night. Identified as B Susheel, the victim owns a showroom, named SNG Jewellers. He was attacked by the criminals and has sustained bullet injury in his abdomen. He was taken to a private hospital where he is recuperating. His condition is said to be stable.
A senior police official said that Susheel closed the shop for the day and was going home in his car. While he was negotiating a turn, he was forced to apply brakes as two men riding a bike fell down just in front of his car. Susheel got down from his car to help the duo but little did he realise that it was just a ploy. As the victim came out of his car and tried to help the bikers, two youths reached the spot on another bike and fired a shot which hit him in the stomach. Apparently the four unidentified men were part of the gang who had come to target the jeweller. The motive behind the attack is being investigated, the police official added.
The assailants fled the spot as the locals rushed in after hearing the gunshot. They informed the Police Control Room and Susheel was rushed to GTB Hospital from where his family took him to Max Hospital. He was then shifted to Pushpanjali Hospital in Vaishali after the Max hospital authorities failed to provide a bed. Susheel was later operated upon and the bullet was removed from his liver after surgery.
Preliminary probe has revealed that robbery was not the motive of the attack as the assailants did not rob anything. If the motive was to commit a robbery, they would have targeted him at the shop itself. Personal enmity could be behind the attack, we are waiting for the victim to be fit for statement so that he can shed some light so as to who can be the attackers. The CCTV footage of and around the spot hasn’t been of much help,” said a police official.
