5-year-old elephant calf found dead at Corbett

PNS

A five-year-old elephant calf was found dead at Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR)’s Jhirna range.

Internal damage was reported to be behind the death of the elephant calf.

After investigation, it is found that intestine of the elephant calf was badly damaged leading to deterioration of its  health, Surendra Mehra, Director, CTR, told The Pioneer.

When asked about the reason that led to damage to intestine of the elephant calf, Mehra informed that it is not clear how the internal part of the elephant calf was damaged since there was no external  injury mark.

However, as elephants live in group so we are monitoring movements of the other elephants in the Jhirna range, further said Mehra.

More so, necessary instructions have been issued to the officials concerned to remain alert after this incident since this area also remains open for tourism purpose during this period, added the official concerned of the CTR.
