Nearly 300 doctor teachers of a medical college gave their resignation to director, Medical Education KK Gupta on Monday to protest against the “barbaric” police action on 25 junior doctors and their subsequent arrest, paralysing medical services in Uttar Pradesh.
Buckling under pressure, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav ordered a high level inquiry into the scuffle between junior doctors and police in Kanpur leading to an indefinite strike at all the Government hospitals in the State for the last three days.
“This is a serious issue. Doctors’ prime responsibility is to save the lives of the people. I appeal to doctors to return to work for the sake of patients. An enquiry has been ordered and it would bring the truth to the fore,” Yadav told reporters here on Monday.
The CM said that Kanpur Divisional Commissioner will probe the entire matter and the guilty, whosoever it may be, will not be spared.
“I am told the entire area is covered by CCTV. A delegation of doctors and police officials should take a look at that. It will help in identifying the real culprit,” he said and added that the Government was sensitive on the matter and was monitoring the incident very carefully.
Taking a jibe at Aam Aadmi Party, the CM questioned as why some political parties are throwing weight behind this incident. “A party which failed to give governance for even 50 days in Delhi has declared its support in favour of the doctor’s agitation. Such outsiders have aggravated the situation,” he said.
Medical services continued to be disrupted for the fourth consecutive day with medical college as well as
private doctors across the State joining the stir demanding the release of 25 junior doctors of GSV Medical College and action against SSP, Kanpur Yashashwi Yadav and Samajwadi Party MlA Irfan Solanki.
The doctors of lala lajpat Rai Government Hospital, also known as Hallet Hospital, had gone on strike after 25 of their colleagues were arrested in a violent scuffle with supporters of ruling Samajwadi Party legislator Irfan Solanki on Friday night.
Meanwhile, a delegation of junior doctors would meet President of India in New Delhi on Tuesday.
