New Delhi: A scientist on Thursday moved the National Green Tribunal seeking directions to demolish 12 check dams in western Uttar Pradesh as they were allegedly contaminating the ground water. A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, who declined to issue notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, tagged the plea with a similar case and fixed the matter for hearing on January 12. The NGT was hearing a petition filed by retired scientist CV Singh.

2 held from up for trafficking 4-yr-old
New Delhi: Two persons, who were allegedly involved in the trafficking of a four-year-old boy, have been arrested by Delhi Police from UP's Bijnore district and the boy has been rescued, police said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Nazra (45), allegedly kidnapped the boy with her associate, Furkan, from Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk area, and sold the boy to one Suhail (30). While Nazraand Suhail have been arrested, Furkan is still at large, DCP(North) Madhur Verma said.
