New Delhi: A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday seized some lethod gun shells and an unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the site where 18 Army personnel were killed by the insurgents in Manipur’s Chandel last week. The NIA, which has taken over the case from the Manipur Police, conducted a thorough search of the area, five days after the attack, sources said. The IED was defused by experts from the Army.
BJP releases candidates’ list for june 27 bypolls
New Delhi: BJP’s Central Election Committee (CEC) has declared the names of its candidates for the June 27 by-elections to two legislative Assembly seats in Tripura and one each in Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. “The BJP has nominated veteran BJP leader from Kerala, O Rajagopal, from Aruvikkara Assembly constituency, Chandar Singh Sisodiya from Garoth Assembly seat in MP,” BJP general secretary and CEC secretary JP Nadda told. For Tripura bypolls , the party has nominated Moushumi Das for the Pratapgarh (SC) seat and Ashish Das for the Surma (SC) seat.

New Delhi: India, Japan and Australia are on the “same page” over increasing assertiveness of China in the disputed South China Sea, Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Akitaka Saiki said on Tuesday. Asserting that an aggressive posture was a matter of grave concern to his country, Saiki said issue was discussed at length at the first-ever trilateral meeting of India, Australia and Japan held here. He was asked if the issue of China’s assertiveness in the region was discussed. Saiki, who also held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar today, said “particularly since the government and the Chinese Communist Party are being led by Xi Jinping, China is showing a different kind of a face. Under Hu Jintao, China behaved in a more reserved manner whereas Xi Jinping seems to be more outgoing. Some describe it as aggressive while others put it as self-assertive”.
