Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who is mired in a controversy over the grant of parole and extension of leave from the prison ever he surrendered before a court on May 16, 2013 to serve the remaining 42 months’ jail term in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, has sought an extension of his leave from Yerwada prison yet again, ahead of the expiry of his 14-day furlough.

Fifty-five-year-old Sanjay, who is to return to Pune’s Yerwada prison on Thursday after spending the first days of the New Year with his family members—has applied for a further extension in his furlough his lawyer Hitesh Jain.

Informed prison sources said that the actor had applied for an extension in furlough ten days ago. Jain, meanwhile, said that his client had not yet received any response from the prison authorities.

Sanjay was granted 14-day furlough on December 24 on his request that he wanted to be with his family during the year-end and early days of 2015. However, two days later, the BJP-led Maharashtra Government ordered a probe into the grant of repeated furloughs and extensions to the actor on the “information” that he was being preferential treatment by the authorities.

With the grant of latest 14-day furlough, Sanjay has managed to stay out of the prison four and a half months ever since he surrendered before a designated TADA court in Mumbai on May 16, 2013 to serve the remaining42 months’ jail term in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
