Young and impatient

The ‘young and impatient’ in the BJP team are waiting for speedy promotion in the organisation as most of the ‘seniors’ are safely ensconced in the Modi-Cabinet. After the first big expansion of the Union Cabinet has answered prayers of ‘veterans’ of ‘current generation’, the Generation next is eyeing vacancies including those of general secretaries and prabharis.

Only Hindi, no English

Journalists covering Ministry of Home Affairs were taken aback on Saturday, when the Press Information Bureau did not issue Press release of the Hindi Divas function at Vigyan Bhawan in English. The English translation of the Hindi speeches was not posted on the PIB website either. When asked, an MHA official said that the whole idea of promoting Hindi language would have got defeated had they send out release in English. “On Hindi Divas, Hindi needs special place,” said the official. Well said. Point taken.

Judge rules English

Supreme Court Judge Justice Dipak Misra loves his English, and his judgments show that eloquently. His command over the language humbled even the top lawyer of the country last week, when Justice Misra was dictating a historic order scrapping a 60-year-old discriminatory rule preventing women make up artists to work in Indian cinema. As Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi took his seat in Court, the Judge asked, “Mr. Attorney General would you like to add some adjectiveIJ” Rohatgi replied, “My English is not as good as My lord’s.”

Picture perfectIJ

The two newly inducted MoS at HRD — Upendra Kushwaha and Ram Shanker Katheria — have already started feeling the heat at Smriti Irani-led HRD Ministry. While the Ministry’s new website is being updated every minute, the second in commands of Irani are yet to find a slot on the home page of the Ministry. Worst shocker came for them on Bal Diwas, when Bal Swachchhta Mission publicity and advertisements had pictures of the HRD Minister only.
