‘APpoint nodal officer in somali pirate case’
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to appoint a nodal officer to coordinate and oversee efforts to bring back Indians held hostages by Somalian pirates, saying combating piracy is imperative for successful world trade. Holding pirates operating from Somalia as a serious menace for maritime traffic, the apex court, however, refused to pass any other direction to the Government saying, “it cannot assume the role of the executive to oversee the sensitive issue of coordination with international agencies and bodies for securing release of citizens, who are held hostages abroad.”
