Shukla’s bail plea: SC seeks CBI’s response
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the CBI’s response on an interim bail plea of senior IAS officer Pradeep Shukla, who has been named by the agency as a key accused in the multi-crore NRHM scam of Uttar Pradesh. A vacation bench of justices Gyan Sudha Misra and Madan B lokur gave the probe agency one week to respond to Shukla’s plea for bail on medical grounds.
India raises internet spying issue with US
New Delhi: India has taken up with the US the reports that it was the fifth most tracked country by the American intelligence using a secret data-mining programme to monitor worldwide internet data and sought further details in this regard. India, which has already termed as “unacceptable” the violation, if any, of domestic laws relating to privacy of information of citizens, said the matter was taken up by NSA with the US Ambassador two days ago.
CPM takes pot shots at BJP functioning
New Delhi: Taking pot shots at BJP over the recent developments within that party, CPI(M) on Thursday said Narendra Modi’s rise represented an “unalloyed communal agenda” combined with advocacy of corporate and big business interests. The resignation of lK Advani and his subsequent retreat had brought out “conflicts and contradictions into the open”, within RSS, BJP as well as NDA, it said. “The progenitor of the Hindutva’s political agenda is at odds with the upstart who seeks to usurp the former’s position,” senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said in an editorial in the latest issue of party organ ‘People’s Democracy’.
CBI for Govt nod to prosecute ex-NDMC chief
New Delhi: The CBI has sought Government’s sanction to prosecute former Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council Parimal Rai in connection with alleged graft in contracts for upgradation of Shivaji Stadium during 2010 Commonwealth Games. CBI sources said the agency has completed its probe in the case and would soon file a charge sheet after getting permission to prosecute Rai, who is now posted as secretary in the Goa Government. Rai is a 1985-batch IAS officer of Union Territory cadre.
