Two women have been booked in Goa on Monday for insulting the national flag, assaulting a police constable and heckling Goa's Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, while the latter was on an official inspection at a Government hospital on Sunday.

Superintendent of Police (South Goa) Chandan Choudhury confirmed to The Pioneer that a First Information Report had been registered at the Margao police station in South Goa under Sections 352 (assault), 353 (preventing Government servant from discharge of duty), 504 (breach of peace), read along with relevant sections of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971.

“An FIR has been registered and we are in the process of probing the matter,” Choudhury said.

On Sunday, a video of two women, believed to be a mother-daughter duo, heckling Rane at the Hospicio hospital in Margao, had gone viral. The video showed the two women shouting bad-words at Rane and accusing him of betraying people's trust by quitting the Congress and joining the BJP soon after Assembly results were declared in March this year.

Rane, however said, that the FIR was registered by his personal security officer Sharad Chopdekar, because the duo had misbehaved with him and had also insulted the national flag, affixed to his car.

“It looks like they were planted by the Congress. They abused me, hit my PSO and even tried to damage the flag on my car,” Rane told The Pioneer.
