2-day shutdown in Valley before Article 35A hearing

Separatists in Kashmir have called for two-day shutdown in Kashmir in the wake of crucial hearing of a case in Supreme Court of India regarding the Article 35-A of the Constitution that guarantees special status to Jammu & Kashmir. The hearing of the case is scheduled on August 6.

A meeting of Joint Resistance leadership (JRl) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik was held here to deliberate upon “serious challenge posed to Article 35A.” “Every attempt made to change the demographic nature of the State will be stiffly resisted,” the JRl said. The leadership has called for complete protest strike on 5th and 6th of August throughout Kashmir and elsewhere to register peoples’ total disapproval and resistance to this politically motivated move.

JRl has warned of mass agitation of hitting and occupying streets if any tinkering with 35A is allowed to take place under a legal garb.
