Ahmedabad Police on late Thursday night detained 14 students of country’s leading school of architecture for consuming liquor illegally.
The detention of these students comes a month after 29 students from another premier institute – National Institute of Design – were caught for drinking alcohol at a private party in the city.
According to police sources, 14 students of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) were having a farewell-cum-birthday party on late Thursday night. The police received complaint that they were creating nuisance in the residential society by way of loud music.
When the police reached the spot, they found students having a party and binging on drinks. It was later found that one of the girls attending the party had arranged the booze. Many of the students are resident of other States but have been residing in the city for education.
The State of Gujarat has recently put in place a stricter prohibition law that calls for imprisonment of up to seven years for consumption of liquor illegally.
