The Gujarat Government will encourage farmers to adopt 100 per cent drip irrigation for sugarcane crop in order to increase productivity and curb wastage of water, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said.

Addressing a farmers’ convention at Ahmedabad on Thursday organised the Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative limited (IFFCO) the Chief Minister further stated that the farmers must change their mindset to  replace the conventional farming with modern farming system.

Through the adoptions of researches and innovations made by Israel in the fields of drip irrigation and agriculture, Gujarat would take the frontal position in the Prime Minister’s pledge to double the income of the farmer by year-2022, he said.

Referring to his recent visit to Israel, the Chief Minister said that he had opted for Israel as he had desired to impart modern knowledge to the farmers of Gujarat to yield optimum crops with minimal water usage. He also pointed out that for the farmers of Gujarat various plans such as loan at zero per cent, generating electricity through solar and others have also been chalked out.
